Lessons in a Gourd

Not only was there an abundance of pears this year, there were scads of punkins. The first lot was taken off to work by Steve and unloaded. The others were given homes in the last couple of days. Today, we took the unwanted ones and carved them up. Ones still green, ones with quirky ‘skin’, and ones which grew on their sides. We drew, cut, disemboweled, scraped, and they are all wonderful.

Not a single pumpkin looks ‘better’ than the other. They are all different and shine quite well in the darkness. Pretty cool lesson in life right there. Reminds me of the poem by Shel Silverstein ‘No Difference.’ We’re all the same, in the dark, so……

‘maybe the way
To make everything right
Is for God to just reach out
And turn off the light!’
