When the boys were little one of their favorite books was’Go Dogs, Go!’ The words in the title of this blog were followed by, “Night is not a time for play. It is a time for sleep. The dogs go to sleep. They will sleep all night.” Tony and Jon loved this part. We had a VHS tape telling this story and when the little dog on the bed didn’t sleep and his eyes popped open for the next page, they would always giggle.
Tonight is really warm outside. If there were less earwigs, I’d want to sleep outside in the warm night. (Earwigs are NOT a blessing. I cannot find a blessing anywhere in those science fiction like creatures!!!) Being outside in the night is like being wrapped in a soft blanket of darkness. Sounds of crickets, the sighing of the breeze in the leaves, it all combines to make one of the most comforting parts of summer.
Of course, you could jump to the teen years and we could all swoon about those ‘Summer Nights’ Olivia Newton John and John Travolta sang about!!! Those were blessings, too!
