This photo was taken last year by one of the amazing Iditarod photographers, Mike K. You can see more of his work at the Iditarod website.
The dogs and mushers make up teams. Teams who rely on each other to survive this long race. In this article by Terrie Hanke, you read about some of the incredible people and pups. Martin Buser, who is racing while his son is recuperating from a devastating accident in Seattle. (his boys are both named after villages along the trail) Karin Hendrickson who has a story you can’t help but cheer about. She missed last year’s race because she had a spinal injury caused by a car who hit her on an icy road during training. This year? She finished in 10 days, 13 hours, and 55 minutes-a personal best. Then, we see the twins come in under the burled arch. Both with 9 dogs and smiles on their faces. St Patrick’s Day blessings to make a person smile!
